The event was held alongside the symposium of the DAAD Global Centres for Climate and Environment, bringing both branches of the Global Centres programme together. Under the theme “Five Years of Impact, Five Years of Vision: Transforming Knowledge into Practice”, the health symposium brought together the DAAD-funded Global Health Centres to reflect on their achievements and explore how research, training and international cooperation can generate practical impact.

GLACIER contributed to several sections of the programme. Prof. Dr. Jan Felix Drexler co-chaired the workshop “Training for Impact: Aligning Global Health Centres’ Capacity Strengthening with Workforce Needs”, which examined how capacity-strengthening initiatives can better respond to workforce needs in pandemic preparedness. Hugo Mendoza presented “From Concept to Practice: Two Decades of Limited Integration of One Health Across Domains, Disciplines, and Sectors”, highlighting persistent challenges in translating the One Health approach into practice.

A broader GLACIER team, including Andrea Chaves, Gerardo Suzán-Azpiri, David Morán, Carlos Ibarra-Cerdeña and César Rodríguez-Luna, presented the workshop “Reframing Global Health and Pandemic Prevention: Strengthening Southern Leadership and Knowledge Systems for Equity in Research Governance”, focused on strengthening leadership from the Global South and promoting more equitable research partnerships.

Beyond the formal sessions, the event provided an important space to exchange experiences, strengthen connections across the Global Centres and identify new opportunities for collaboration. GLACIER’s participation reaffirmed its commitment to interdisciplinary One Health research, equitable international partnerships and the translation of knowledge into action.
